The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a significant awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a clamor for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated in any category in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, however the design in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games globally and have been for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
