An individual who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.

The defendant was held in detention before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he ran.

The defendant played a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor added: "This year his family member had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel said items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepchild notified the police about his concerns.

She said Ruben continued to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not gone out by that stage," she added.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The prosecutor said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the law enforcement once more.

She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
