Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The anticipation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be crafting a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
